The KC-135 Inboard Aileron is another project perfectly suited to the capabilities of D-J Engineering. Approximately 268 unique detail parts utilize a wide range of in-house manufacturing capabilities including the brake press, bladder press, draw forming, extrusion forming, heat treatment and CNC machining. 37 sub-assemblies include 14 bonded assemblies with 2 of those being formed honeycomb core panels. D-J worked with Boeing to design an approved Medium of Inspection (M.O.I.) Final Assembly Jig, a Final Assembly Balancing Jig, as well as bench top tooling to break out more intricate sub-assemblies.

All details, assemblies, and tooling were modeled within CATIA prior to production . This preparation generates a threefold return by troubleshooting potential design issues, identifying an optimal build sequence, and providing assembly with a visual aid which greatly surpasses information provided by 2-D drawings alone.
